Blacklisting spam by country of origin

Friday, February 15, 2008

Today, PCD has begun deploying the first version of its software to deter spam on websites by blacklisting entries in PunxsyPage.com by tracing their IP address to their country of origin. Most spam, especially most classified ads spam, originates in a handful of countries. India, thanks to its large outsourcing business, has become a popular place for folks to outsource spamming, too. Cameroon has always had a large and strange trade in internet spam, especially...

We need victims to test software on

Thursday, February 7, 2008

I have a stack of web apps that are sitting here in need of some real world torture victims to test them. First is a Geospatial Information System that allows you convert government ARC file data into searchable databases that produce user-generated maps based on search queries. I have no idea who would really need such a system, but it's still pretty cool. I don't have a link up yet, but the GIS code I started building in December will let you pull up roads, rivers, streams, etc within a...

Thursday, January 17, 2008

If you're a Pro Content and Design hosting customer, you will be seeing a few minor changes. We are moving all the websites onto a new server, for the sake of ensuring a more modern infrastructure. Most of our customers will notice zero difference at all. Thanks to the migration path PCD undertook, the websites will experience little if any downtime (as in, no more than a few minutes).Folks who rely on PCD's webmail will see a significant improvement in spam blocking. We're always pleased...

Bedrock CMS to get frontend

Tuesday, November 29, 2005

September 10, 2005 Bedrock CMS seems to test out well in deployment. So . . . the next thing is to develop a smoother method for deployment. That means that a Bedrock CMS frontend is the next step. The BCMS frontend will allow you to login, add users, and add content in a well-managed, secure, easy-to-use fashion. It will function, fundamentally, like a blog. I do think the frontend is going to require the inclusion of MySQL, because there are only a handful of...

The move begins!

Tuesday, November 29, 2005

August 26, 2005 The move begins! Pro Content and Design is making its move over to its own content management system, Bedrock CMS, running on Fedora Core 4 Linux. Why? Because it just works better. All the older Windows stuff will still work, and project trials will continue with Windows testbeds. But, with the quality of Bedrock CMS, it just seemed a little off to not be using it for the main website. The Linux migration was a long time coming. For the near term, the...
